The latest offering from our geriatrics in the corner....

Clubs make a significant effort to show that a genuine and warm welcome is what matters
- Pete Kenyon

For the last few years, since the 1st XV got promoted to North Lancs/Cumbria and especially when we spent a season in North 1 West, Compost Corner has reaped a particularly pleasant benefit.

Almost without exception the clubs which we visit on our travels, take the issue of hospitality very seriously. We have particular favourites of course but most clubs make a significant effort to show that it matters that they offer a genuine and warm welcome.

We, of course, try our best to reciprocate when they visit us. We have formed some close and very friendly relationships with our opposition team’s versions of Compost Corner.
It is yet another example of just what a very special sport we are involved in. These are the same guys that we used to trade blood and bruises with in our playing days. True, most of the clubs who now form a regular set of opponents were far above us in the glorious days of The Queen Anne and New House Farm but some we met fairly frequently and some of the others on rare occasions in cup competitions.

We get nothing but praise and admiration for what our club has achieved since our days as a pub team, yet another tribute to the work carried out by the volunteers in the club, past and present, for which every member of the club should be enormously grateful. I know that Compost Corner are.

I can’t say that it helps on the pitch, down to you young guys I’m afraid, but the fact that every club we compete against has a good opinion of our club, who we are, where we have come from and the values we represent makes old men proud and should inspire you young men to take full advantage of what our wonderful club has to offer.

Enjoyment of the game of rugby does not by any means end with the hanging up of your boots. There are hundreds of old buggers in all the clubs you have played against just dying to share a few beers and bullshit about just how good we were when you were still in nappies.

Remember for you to be old and wise, like us, you must first be young and stupid, like we were.
