Omagh RFC 4ths 48 Bolton touring XV 69

Report from tour Manager Paul Fernside

A mixed Bolton side containing players from every adult team in the Club, and including recent colts and ageing vets, travelled to Omagh for a friendly fixture before watching a feast of International rugby in the clubhouse.

The game was played at a frantic pace early on with tries flying in from every part of the pitch and all 20 Bolton players being used in regular interchanges to maintain some level of fresh legs.

A number of Dad & Lad combinations were in the squad including Pate & Adam Hackin together in the second row, and Gareth & Tom Evans and Tom & Niall Murphy all making appearances

Former Bolton Institute and Bolton RUFC players Ross Duncan, who travelled from Limavady to play for Bolton, and local “boy” Emlyn Smyth, who turned out for Omagh, both played in a game where the score board operator troubled to keep up with the scoring.
In a game containing more than a 100 points - both defence coaches were sacked immediately after the game.

Bolton RUFC would like to thank; Omagh Accies RFC, the Silver Birch Hotel and Byrnes coaches for making the weekend run so smooth.

Special thanks must go to Emlyn for his work behind the scenes and to Ross for making the effort to come down to play.

Rugby was the winner.
