Bolton RUFC’s Jon Paul Hardman has been named on a shortlist of just three rugby players to win Rhino Rugby’s community hero award, Prop Star.

The competition has been running throughout the year with prop forwards who go the extra mile for their club and local community nominated by clubs across the UK. Hardman saw off more than 40 rival props from as far afield as the USA with the judges unanimously naming him as one of three finalists to go to a public vote. His two rivals are from Beckenham in Kent (James Cleverly) and Streatham-Croydon in London (Rhiannon Kennedy).

Should he win, he will not only win equipment for his club, but also be presented with the Rhino Prop Star award by England hero Martin Johnson at Twickenham during the Varsity March on 7th December 2017.

The judges were England heroes Jason Leonard and Rochelle Clark, as well as Welsh icon Adam Jones, who said: “I was overwhelmed with the amount of great entries – but not surprised, I’ve always known props are something special, a real different breed. It was really hard to cut it down to just three but in Rhiannon, JP and James have three worthy winners.”
