MATCH REPORT
It was a glorious day at Liverpool St Helens and a 19-strong squad for the Bolton U13’s put in a strong opening performance of the season after a hard summer of fitness training and drills.
After 6 minutes of play Leon HODSON ran in his first try in a well rehearsed set play from a free pass. Some loose tackling led to Liverpool levelling a couple of minutes later.
Bolton restored their advantage on 14 minutes after winning a scrum against the head on their own try line before working the ball out to Oliver KEOGH to run the length of the pitch in a fine solo effort.
The pressure was kept on with excellent work from Levi WAITE playing at number 8, and Ben PRICE picked the ball and ran from the ruck to squeeze over the line on 15 minutes to make the score 3-1.
Ten minutes later, HODSON got his second and third tries of the match, the first profiting from good awareness and passing by Tyler MALEY and Ed PERRIS, and his hat-trick sealed with a fine solo run from try line to try line to make the score 5-1.
After such a blistering game, Bolton took the foot off the gas, and allowed LSH to battle back into the match with two great tries, before Mark GLYNN (having had an earlier try disallowed) received the ball from PRICE to put the ball over for a deserved spot on the scoresheet in the last minute. Final Score 6-3 to Bolton.
The Bolton pack was dominant throughout, and was winning at scrum, ruck and maul and creating the space for the backs to flourish and take the glory. A bright season may lie ahead for the Under 13’s if they keep this up.
