Emphatic Win for Bolton U13s

Lancashire U13s Waterfall Competition.

Orsmkirk 0 : Bolton 50

On a bright sunny but cold morning Bolton travelled across to Ormskirk for their first fixture in the Lancashire Waterfall Competition and incidentally their first ever match against Ormskirk. This was unknown territory for the lads who were keen to keep their winning ways and put up a good show in their first cup run.

Bolton won the toss and elected to receive the kick off. Ormskirk came charging down field but this was the closest they came to Bolton's line. The rest of the match was essentially a lesson in teamwork defence and attack with some individual breaks to score the tidal wave of tries. Bolton's pack showed their superiority from the start. A Ormskirk scrum in the middle of the field was won against the head with a big drive. The ball is spun wide and after a few phases Sam Atherton pick up and drives from a ruck, he has with several Osmskirk players hanging off his back but still he powers through for the first try. The front row of Luke Davies, Freddie Holt-Gregson and Connor Whittle were not taking a step backwards for the rest of the match.

Over the next 15 mins Oliver Keogh and Leon Hodson exchange 3 tries each with strong running, brushing off tackles and jinking to make space for themselves. The match is very one sided and Ormskirk look demoralised. All their attacks are snuffed out and without making a great deal of ground so they resort to kicking that just gives possession away and wave upon wave of Bolton attack. Subs are brought on but there's no let up in the domination and everyone puts in the effort. Shane Gillibrand, Blake Griffiths and Cameron Halliday (back from a broken wrist) are maintaining the quality in the front row.
Just before half time George Jackson at outside half makes a break up the middle of the field and after a couple phases Jacob Ashworth (Ashy) makes the incisive break, Tyler Maley is on hand to scoot around the defence to score in the corner.
8 tries to nil at half time.

With the second half an enticing prospect, spirits high and all the boys having made an appearance on the pitch, it's time to change things around a bit. Bolton shift their usual positions and aim for a passing game. Now the wings see a little more ball and James Hopkinson and Mark Glynn make some ground round the outside. Oliver Keogh at scrum half picks the ball up from the back of the scrum and spots gaping hole in the defence so slips through and takes his tally to 4 tries. Ben Price restored to his usual position at outside half, on their 22m line produces an little bit of magic with a delicate chip over the top of the defence and a chase through to touch down.

Ormskirk's players and coaches are frustrated by Bolton's total dominance, tackles are not being made and so they call it a day with less than 10 mins of the second half played.
The overall forward display was exemplary today, again.

Final score Ormskirk 0 : 50 Bolton (although on official's score card it's recorded as 9 tries to nil)
