Bolton under 13's bounced back from heavy defeat last week with a 25-10 home win over a well organised Sedgley Park.
This was a tighter affair than the score might suggest, with both sides highly competitive on an energy sapping surface. Bolton found themselves without several regular players and gave debuts to fast winger Leo Hope-Barry and forward Jakob Kajut.
On two minutes, Oliver Keogh scored the first try of his four for the day, and maintained his record of scoring in every match this season with a fine solo effort. However, this match was very much a team effort with tackles coming in from the whole team , both backs and forwards. Again, the Bolton pack showed superior technique to win scrum after scrum against the head, marshalled by an impressive display from Levi Waite. Scrum half Sam McDowell distributed the ball well throughout, with George Jackson and Mark Glynn impressing in support. At half time, the score stood at two tries to one in favour of the hosts. The second half was a similar affair, with Bolton's work at the breakdown and set piece proving to be the difference between the two teams. When space allowed, Bolton could rely on their backs, led by free scoring Keogh to use the possession to put scores on the board. That score stood at 4-2 with five minutes to go when Bolton were awarded a free kick on the Sedgley 22 metre line. Connor Whittle received the pass and with Keogh binding on, the two drove over with awesome power for Whittle to touch down for what was both his first try of the season and the best and last of the game. Keogh once more was in the thick of the action at the very end of the game stopping a certain try from Sedgley with a fingertip leg tackle at full stretch.
Final score, Bolton 25, Sedgley Park 10
Next week, Bolton face classy opposition again in the form of Preston Grasshoppers.
