AKA The one where Steve begged to differ
Bolton under 13's recent winning streak came to an end on a frosty morning at Sale as they finished on the wrong end of a 5-3 score line.
The opening ten minutes was all Bolton pressure with phase after phase of possession deep in the Sale half. Some fine defending from the Home side and some handling errors from Bolton meant that they came away from this part of the game empty handed where their effort deserved two or three tries.
It was therefore completely against the run of play when Sale crossed the half way line for the first time to score on eleven minutes. Bolton responded well with top scorer Leon Hodson responding with his own solo effort to bring the scores level.
Sale began to match Bolton in all areas of the game and their passing game began to pay dividends with the home team making better use of their possession with quick ball to the wings. Sam Atherton among the forwards and Mark Glynn and Oliver Keogh in the backs put in some big tackles, but couldn't prevent Sale opening up a 3-1 lead by the break.
Bolton attacked from the off in the second half, but we're beginning to struggle in the scrums and Sale managed to extend their lead to 5-1 through counter attacking early in the second half as Bolton pressed.
But then the comeback began and Oliver Belle and Oskar Chadderton began to settle in to their makeshift positions in the back line. Hodson ran in two tries in quick succession to complete his hat trick and to take his season's tally past 50 . Bolton finished the game much the stronger side and would have had a share of the spoils and perhaps the win had the match lasted another ten minutes. Bolton are again on their travels next week away at Manchester, which will be another tough test.
