After two defeats in as many weeks, Bolton under 13's blasted back into form with a resounding cup tie win by 8 tries to 3 in the face of an icy gale at Fleetwood. The home team were short on numbers and so Bolton's Blake Griffiths and Peter Webster turned out for them and put in fine performances.
Bolton try machine Oliver Keogh scored twice in the opening ten minutes as the visitors took the initiative with good passing play, strong rucking and hard running. The second of these tries came from an 8 pass move including some fast hands from Oskar Chadderton.
Ben Price grabbed a first half brace with two identikit efforts, both mazy, bamboozling runs.
The first half was coming to an end when Keogh surged through again, but was stopped short of the line. The ball came free and Levi Waite was ideally placed to pounce over the line to bring Bolton in to half time at 5-0 up.
This score line did not reflect the fact that Fleetwood were a well, organised unit with some fast strong runners and a big pack, and they started the second half the brighter with a try. Bolton dug in and defended well to limit the damage, with Oliver Belle and Mark Glynn putting in crucial tackles to deny the Seasiders.
Bolton's rucking paid dividends as they moved on to the Fleetwood try line, keeping possession well at the breakdown and making marginal ground with each play. It was from a ruck on the line that Fred Holt Gregson picked the ball to power through and over for his first try of the season.
Waite scored his second of the game immediately after the restart with Sam Mcdowell brought down inches short of the line, with Waite finishing the job from the resultant ruck.
Sam Atherton capped a fine game playing in the backs with a try coming through him following up a long attacking run from Glynn and being in the right place to receive a slick pass and to touch over.
Fleetwood were not downhearted and scored twice in the final two minutes as Bolton's defence grew tired to leave the final score at Bolton 8 tries, Fleetwood 3.
