A solid all round performance brings rewards in the first match of the season
Fourteen excited lads took the pitch in the 1st match of the season, slightly embarrassing as you are only allowed 13. A quick word with the ref, another count and we made our 1st change of the season. Liverpool Collegiate played us at the festival, a tight match that Bolton sneaked. We hoped we could repeat this but 4 minutes in and a lazy pass went to Ethan and the Collegiate player outpaced the Bolton defense 5-0.
A great hanging kick off from Jack Good saw Collegiate under immediate pressure and after numerous drives and being held up twice over the line Louie Ramm opened his account, so 7 mins in and the score was 5-5.
The next 12 mins were quite strange, Bolton had the territory but Liverpool had the possession but eventually a mistake led to a Bolton scrum and a couple of phases later Ben popped over. Half time 5-10.
Whatever the coaches said at half time worked, tries from Henry Ainscough (2 mins), Louie (5) and Henry again (7) saw Bolton race to 5-25 but Collegiate dug in, like the 1st half Bolton had the territory but Collegiate possession and this time there was stalemate for the next 17 mins.
Just before the final whistle Josh Bentley- Hughes went on a wandering run, it completely baffled the opposition but equally his own teamates, so with no support he decided to head for the line himself, touching down to give a final score of 5-30.
A great start to the season, all our players got some match time and a real team effort gained this excellent result, even though I suspect some of them are still stuck on the car park!
