Some players return but others go missing. A great game -much closer than the score suggests.
Bolton welcomed back some players returning from injury but lost Callum to a ski injury. Matthew P to the RFU 'concussion protocol'. The when things looked reasonably promising 2 more players called off. So with 17 available we were up against a 20 strong Fylde squad.
After a very even start Bolton conceded a try after 5 minutes, with Fylde again crossing after 12 minutes.
A quick tap penalty from Jack Good on his own 10 mtr line saw Loiue Ramm make 20 mtrs, where he unleashed Josh Bentley Hughes who ran the ball in. Fylde decided to receive, Jack's hanging kick off traveled well into the 22 in the blustery conditions, Fylde never dealt with it, gave away a penalty. This time the quick tap went to Daniel McGuinness, who made hard yards, Matthew Cooney took over and when the ball was presented Henry Ainscough went over. So after 20 mins the score was 2-2. Bolton made a few substitutions but whilst they were settling down Fylde scored 3 times, including from a Bolton kick-off taken after the clock went red. HT 25-10.
The second half saw Fylde run in an early try after 2 minutes. Bolton replied after 6 mins, a Bolton penalty at the 20 mtr line became a 10 mtr penalty due to backchat and the quick tap from Jack found Louie who as usual was unstoppable from that range. Fylde then pulled further ahead but after 12 mins a replica of Bolton's 1st try saw Ben Hammond outpace the defense to score in the left corner. So at 35-20 an unlikely come-back still seemed possible when Louie kick over a flat defense and almost grounded.
That was as close as it got, with Bolton visibly tiring Fylde took the chance to run in 3 unanswered tries to leave the final score as a rather unrepresentative 50-20.
A great game in challenging conditions, played in a brilliant spirit by both teams and superbly refereed by Ben from Fylde.
