Bolton travelled to Southport not knowing too much about their opposition.

The team squad was James Entwistle, James Preston and Matthew Moore shoring up the scrum, with Milo Holmes at scrum half and Ben Turner, Joshua and Zak Grundy, Andrew Gallacher in the backs. With only 8 players Southport kindly lent a player for both halves of the match.
Southport had a squad of 19 players to choose from. Alex Ramwell was missing this week due to half term.
Bolton started the brisker team and within 5 minutes of kick off Ben Turner Captain for the day outpaced the opposition on the left wing to score the opening try. He ran three quarters of the pitch to score.
Bolton began to pile on the pressure they were the better team in the opening phases rucking the ball well and not allowing the big Southport forwards near the ball.
Milo ever busy behind the rucks and mauls was providing good ball to the backs.
However Southport equalised after slack tackling let their number 10 in over the try line.
Southport began to get back into the game and spoil the Bolton attacking play although some of this should have been whistled off side after their big number 3 failed to come through the gate.
Ben Turner managed to score once more after he saw a gap again on the left side and at half time it was 4 v 2 to Southport.
The teams turned around at half time and almost immediately James Preston took the ball in the middle of the field and bulldozed his way through the Southport defence to score an excellent try.
4 v 3
Bolton started to come back and their ‘first up’ tackling was paying off against the speedy Southport runners.
Zak Grundy and his brother Josh made some weaving excellent runs towards the Southport line.
One such run took Zak to within 2 yards of the Southport line and good support by Milo provided the ball for Ben who spotted a gap on the right flank and went over despite a desperate last minute tackle by Southport. 4 v 4
The game could go any way at this point but it was Southport who scored next. 5 v 4
Milo Holmes levelled the score with a great try in the corner 5 v 5 and Southport replied soon after when the ball was passed to their speedy girl who ran from the kick off down the left wing to score.
Matthew and both James Entwistle and James Preston made some great runs and gave great support although the rucks and mauls were starting to get untidy.
Ben scored his fourth try of the match which was soon levelled by Southport to 6 v 6.
By this time pressure was on Bolton and Southport were camped near to the Bolton line and a quiet word with the referee to tell him that the second half was in to it’s 25th minute signalled the end of the game.
A great game by too well matched sides and Bolton just pipped the home team for their better style of play. Thanks to Nathan and George from Southport who turned out for Bolton.
Player of the Match award went to ‘4 try’ Ben Turner for his tries and his tackling prowess.
