'Grundy twins on fire'

The under 10's travelled to St Helens for this early Ko fixture.

Unusually they had a full squad available which meant there was no need to borrow any players or play with less than the normal players.

Matty Moore, James Entwistle and James Preston were the powerhouse for the day playing in the forwards with Milo Holmes at scrum half and the backs made up of Ben Turner, Zak and Josh Grundy, Alex Ramwell and new debutant Oliver Crompton.

The game started very evenly with both sides sharing the possession.
Liverpool St Helens had a couple of strong runners who took some stopping but the ‘gritty’ Grundy twins were equal to them putting in some excellent tackles.

It wasn’t long before Josh Grundy crossed the try line for the first try of the match.

Bolton started to take the upper hand and gain more of the fifty-fifty balls and it was Alex Ramwell getting to the breakdown first and turning over ball in Bolton’s favour.

Liverpool were not to be outdone however and excellent runs by their big forward produced a great individual try.

Milo Holmes made some great runs from the back of the rucks but the final pass just failed him until one such run towards the Liverpool line produced an excellent inside ball to put Zak Grundy over the line for his first of two tries.

Milo then scored himself after bursting through the home teams defensive line.

Liverpool replied and it looked like it was going to be tight game between the two well matched teams. Matty Moore took the ball from a Bolton penalty and was just stopped short of the line.
Debutant Olly made a fantastic try saving tackle by tapping the ankle of the Liv St Helens player as he dashed for the line.

In the second half with the game going either way Bolton started the stronger.

Alex Ramwell not to be out done and showing that he is not only a grafter but has a turn of speed sprinted up the left touch line and over for his first of two tries. The second followed almost immediately.

Liverpool never let their heads drop and fought their way over for their third try.

The Bolton backs never stopped talking to each other encouraging each other and making sure their defence was solid, James E and Ben Turner scored further tries before Zak finished off with his second of the day. The final score was 4-8.

A great result to come back after their defeat to Eccles a few weeks ago.

Debutant Oliver played well for his first game making some powerful runs and good tackles.
The whole team played well but ‘Player of the match’ trophy went to Milo Holmes for great vision and choosing the right options.
