Oliver Crompton wins accolade of Player of Match award for excellent tackling and try

Bolton travelled to Tyldesley for this away fixture in near perfect conditions apart from the wind. The grounds was firm and for the first time in weeks the Bolton players saw grass growing on the pitch.

The team was Matty Moore, James Preston and James Entwistle up front and the Captain of the day Milo Holmes at scrum half with Ben Turner Alex Ramwell Zak and Josh Grundy and Oliver Crompton.

The game started very slowly with both sides spoiling well but the narrow pitch did not help and flowing rugby was not the order of the day.

What little space that did show was exploited immediately by Ben Turner who ran up the touchline to score the opening try for Bolton on 2 minutes.

Tyldesley soon replied however 1 minute later to equalise the score. 1-1

The game then became stuck in the middle of the park for the next 11 minutes with possession being shared by both teams. Tyldesley were spoiling well and Bolton were tackling well, led from the front by Oliver Crompton.

Just prior to half time Bolton got the break they needed and Oliver Crompton took the ball skipped past several Tyldesley defenders and scored in the corner.

Half time 1-2 to the away team.

The half time team talk seemed to work and Bolton started to tighten up at the rucks and mauls and give a better platform for Milo to work from.

The Bolton front three started to turn over Tyldesley’s ball in the scrum and all this new possession led to Alex Ramwell’s first try of the morning.

He soon followed this up with two more tries within the first 5 minutes of the second half. All credit to Tyldesley whose heads did not drop and they stuck at it.

Bolton began to settle down with some great tackling by Zak and Josh. Oliver put in some crunching tackles and great running in order to suck in the Tyldesley defence by the forwards, Matty, and the two Jame’s turned the game Bolton’s way.

On 10 minutes of the second half Ben Turner skipped his way down the touchline to score his second try and Alex got his fourth one minute later.

Not to be outdone Zak ran half of the field sporting his new identity on his back and just a yard away from the line passed the ball to his brother Josh to score the last try of the game. Brotherly love or did Zak owe Josh a favour who knows.

The game finished at 1-8 in Bolton’s favour.

Tyldesley never gave up but Bolton were just too strong on the day.

Player of the match award went to Oliver Crompton for his tackling and excellent try.

The Bolton Under 10’s played brilliantly well done to all.
