Under 10's Match report

Blackburn were the visitors to Bolton this week and they arrived with a big squad. And when I say big I mean not only in numbers but in size as well.
With Ben Turner unavailable Reece Townsend stepped into the team to make up the nine required being James Preston, James Entwistle, Matthew Moore, Zak and Josh Grundy, Alex Ramwell, Milo Holmes and Oliver Crompton who was Captain for the day.
The game was played in three thirds to allow Blackburn to rotate their squad and almost immediately Blackburn took the game to Bolton with their powerful Captain Matthew running at the Bolton defence.
Bolton had forgotten how to tackle in the first ten minute game and Blackburn found themselves 3 tries up the score being 0-3.
A few stern words at the break and Bolton started to tackle in the middle third of the game.
Zak and Josh Grundy put in some immense tackles to stop the big Blackburn players, but the well drilled side found another gap in the defence and Blackburn opened the scoring in this third.
Oliver Crompton who was playing only his third game for Bolton scored a great individual try in the corner but when the second third was over Bolton were trailing 1-6.
Bolton had gained confidence in their tackling by the third match and were stemming the Blackburn drives towards their line but in the end Blackburn were worthy winners 1-8.
Bolton have not played such a well drilled side all season and the players learnt a lot from this match.
Blackburn have only lost one game all season and that was to high flying Preston Grasshoppers.
Well done to the Bolton players for sticking at it and listening to their coach. We need to work harder around the ruck area as Blackburn were able to turn over too much Bolton ball.
Player of the match award was shared this week by Zak and Josh Grundy for their brave tackling against players twice their size.
