The final match of the season took the Under 10’s to Didsbury who they haven’t played all season.
However their coach wasn’t aware of the fixture and had to hastily prepare his team who hadn’t turned up on time.
The game was played in 3 ten minute spells to allow the players to rest and take on water due to the warm weather. With a full squad available it was great to see the team in action for the last time this season.
After team and award photos the game started. Bolton started the stronger of the two teams and after only a minute Zak Grundy went over the line for the first try.
Didsbury were not to be outdone however and defended well and soon levelled the score by their Captain Ben. Most of the play took place in the middle of the park, all the room on the wings was not being exploited until on 6 minutes Josh Grundy went over the line after good work by Milo Holmes.
James Preston worked hard in the rucks and mauls but lack of support failed to provide good clean ball even after the pre-match rucking session.
Alex Ramwell stormed over for Bolton’s third try in the final minute of the first third. Score at the break 1 v 3 to Bolton.
Bolton very much dominated the second third with Alex Ramwell racing over the whitewash almost immediately after kick off. Didsbury replied with a score almost immediately as their game plan was to give the ball to their biggest forward to smash through the Bolton defence. This seemed to work when Bolton failed to make ‘first up’ tackling.
With the score at 2 v 4 it was anybodies game. Bolton started to look wide now after stern words from their coach and Milo Holmes made a great run down the right wing and made a perfect delayed pass to Oliver Crompton on the wing to score his first try. 2 v 5.
James Preston was rewarded for all his hard effort on 6 minutes of the 2nd third after he scored after a powerful run. The 2nd third ended at 2 v 6
Bolton then took their foot off the gas in the third game and Didsbury came back into the game. Poor tackling by the away side let Didsbury score three more tries to Bolton’s two scored by the ‘hat trick’ Oliver Crompton. The Final score was 5 v 8.
A fitting end to the season.
James Preston won player of the match award for all his hard work in the rucks and mauls.
