Alex Ramwell gets a hat trick as the Under 11's just miss out on honours v local rivals Sedgley Park

Bolton Under 11’s travelled to Sedgley park for their first match of the season ably assisted by four of the under 10’s team.

Many thanks to the under 10’s who travelled to play but for them the game couldn’t have gone ahead due to lack of numbers.

The game started in Sedgley Park’s favour with their large prop forward Greg going over the try line on several occasions. Strong running from him with the ball tucked under his arm led to the tries.

Clearly this was Sedgley’s ‘secret weapon’ it was up to the Bolton team to keep the ball away from him.

After the initial shock of being 3 tries down Bolton began to play rugby. Superior rucking at the breakdown and passing moves began to pay off.

Alex Ramwell was deemed just short of the line after a brilliant drive.
He was rewarded later for his tenacity with the first of what was to be a hat trick of tries.

Bolton began to claw their way back into the game and the game then seesawed backwards and forwards with the lead. The forwards started to take control with new player Lewis Barnes making some good runs and getting used to scrummaging.

Great positional kicking by the stand off Zak Grundy exposed weaknesses in the Sedgley Park defence.

Oliver Crompton was playing outstanding which was capped with a try. His tackling this week was immense.

Josh Grundy at full back made some ‘jinking runs’ to release the ball to the rest of the backs. Bolton started to gain superiority in all aspects of the game and they kept the ball alive well.

Milo Holmes playing at scrum half scored an excellent try in the corner after he had spotted the open space on the wing. The under 10’s who were playing never shirked a tackle faced with the much larger opposition. Sam from the under 10’s who was guesting for the under 11’s scored his first try.

If you had to assess the game overall it was closely fought but from a team point of view Bolton took the honours. The final score 43-36 didn’t count, a great game played by all. Three tries to Alex Ramwell, individual tries to Milo,Olly and Sam.
Zak Grundy got three conversions. He had been watching too much ‘Cross bar Challenge’. Alex Ramwell was crowned ‘player of the match’.

A great start to the season, the under 11’s are still short of players if anyone is interested in becoming part of a great team.
