Bolton Under 15s 48 v 0 Tarleton

Bolton Boys win in awesome style

It would appear that the late start to the game on Sunday suited the Bolton boys as they came out with the determination and style of a professional squad playing in a cup final.

From the very start of the game the Bolton 15 moved as one and simply outplayed a bewildered Tarleton team, they were first to every breakdown, and battled for every loose ball. The handling and passing was sublime with some clever moves being made by the backs who were flying with the ball in hand for most of the game.

Tackling was immense and when Tarleton did manage to get the ball more often as not one of our boys was on them in a flash of cherry and white ripping the ball or legs away with ease. The practice at training has certainly paid off, and even with several players still out due to injuries, others playing in unfamiliar positions and a couple of new players the boys did themselves, their parents, coaches and their club proud today.

The game started with a typical Bolton move and the forwards and backs taking the ball towards the Tarleton line in turn allowing Mr dependable Tom Hill to score the first try in the corner which he eagerly converted from the most acute angle, pure class score 7-0.

The second try came from the physical strength of the squad from a loose ball, some deft passing between a number of players and a nice run by Ryan McClusky to score in the corner again , this time the additional points alluded Tom but never mind there would be plenty more to come, score 12-0

The third try came from a Bolton scrum just inside the Tarleton 22 and a wonderful forwards move between Will Mac and Tom Hill allowing Tom to crash over the whitewash for his second try of the game , this time much more central which he easily converted with his right boot, score 19-0

The fourth try came just prior to half time and this was the pick of the first half bunch. Ryan McClusky stole the ball from a Tarleton move and quick hands transferred the ball to debutant Jack Bailey on the left wing. Jack shrugged offa would-be tackler, surged into space and with sublime timing returned the ball to Mikey Latham who danced round a couple of despairing defenders before feeding his Centre partner to make a peach of a run by Firth Lord in his inimitable fashion straight down the middle of the pitch simply going round and side stepping half the Tarleton team before placing the ball under the posts making another easy conversion for Tom, score 26-0

The second half started with the Tarleton boys putting up much more of a fight and Bolton knew they had a game on, some hard defensive play followed and a couple of quick try’s by Captain Will Mac, the first he simply fought his way to the line in typical Will Mac style barging through flailing arms, the second was run down three quarters of the pitch ( this boy has pace ) with a cheeky placing of the ball under the post to finish. David took the conversion with aplomb, score 38-0.
Bolton by this time were attacking with every move and pushed the Tarleton squad back to their own line, a succession of penalties allowed the Avenue Street boys the opportunity to try different attacking moves, one in particular straight from the training ground, saw low flying winger in the shape of Jacob ( Mr Gangam Style ) Walker slice his way with such elegance and stealth past the Tarleton defence to score his first ( of many ) tries for Bolton, score 43-0

The final try came once again from a long range attack and darting run from Ryan to end the game score Bolton 48 Tarleton 0

Highlights of the game other than the try’s scored where from Joe Partington who has discovered he can pick the ball up and run with it with ease past several players looking like Ryan with his long flowing locks in the wind. Mikey who has come of age in the back line up with such accurate passes, deadly tackles and skill with the ball in hand. Tom Mac with his accurate throw ins at the line out , crunching tackles on anybody who dares go near him with a ball despite their size and desire to run through anyone. Josh with his darting runs and calmness in defence and attack. Joel the rock in the scrum and tiger in a ruck. Jack for his tackling and sheer enthusiasm in support of his team. Players’ Player of the Season Adam tearing through defenders at 100mph. David stepping up to the 9 shirt and playing his heart out and finally the new lithe and remodeled Levi who we welcomed back today with some thunderous hits and an extra 3 yards of pace.

Let’s finish the season off on a high next week at Oldham boys.

Roll on next season, this team may be the one to look out for
