Today’s match was undisputedly a one-sided game. Many of the spectators had a feeling it would be when they arrived, noticing that Bolton had a significant size advantage over the home team, Ashton-Under-Line. And so, the crowd of parents strolled down the sideline to wisely set up camp next to the opposition’s twenty-two metre line.
Bolton’s line-up had to be altered due to a few key players that were unable to make it such as the usual open-side flanker, Morgan Skeels Caldwell and number 8, Dan Southworth; not forgetting the star flanker, James Preston, who has been out for some time due to a horrific knee injury. Despite these absences the back row today, consisting of Matty Moore, Tom Crook and Alex Greenhalgh put in a great performance.
Bolton got off to a fast start, and soon Alfie Kay drove the ball over the tryline, and a tough conversion was made by James Evans. Many more attempts at scoring were made in the first half, resulting in a try for Milo, one for Zak and two for Owen. Two tries were converted by Ben, and no reply from the home side’s attack left the score at halftime at 31-0.
At halftime, changes were made and Bolton had to lend players to the home team, as they were short of numbers. The second half seemed less one-sided, and it appeared that both sides had tired. But despite this, Sam managed to score two consecutive tries, followed by another scored by Alfie. However, the home team responded to this with a try scored by Milo, who was one of the borrowed players. The conversional was unluckily missed, and the game ended with a great try from Sam, which was set up by Elvis.
Special mentions to Matty Moore, Alfie Kay and Sam Dawson
