Greenhalgh's rampage versus Moor helps Bolton secure a win

Bolton Under 15’s were one side who managed to beat the weather when they travelled to Heaton Moor in Stockport. With an original squad of 27 narrowed down to 21 after players were unable to travel due to frozen vehicles , injuries and illness Bolton took to the field against lower league opposition in this friendly fixture. The conditions were sticky under foot so the team were asked to keep the ball alive at every opportunity but this led to silly mistakes and lack of structure. Alex Greenhalgh playing his first game at number 8 relished the task and it wasn’t long before he crossed the line to score his first of two tries. Josh Grundy stepped up for the conversion but he failed to convert. Bolton continued to dominate the home team and before half time James Mc Dowell playing at scrum half went over for his first of two tries. Milo Holmes who had stepped up to the position of fly half converted the try to make the score 0 v 12 at half time.
Several minutes into the second half Alex Greenhalgh (Pictured above) scored his second try which seemed to rally the home team who replied with their own try in the corner which was unconverted. 5 v 17.
With ten minutes gone wholesale substitutions were made with Ben Turner coming into the fly half role, Milo Holmes moving to centre. Owen Patel moved to second row for Cameron Richardson and Luis Jones, Joe Fraser-Taylor , Harry Dawber and Connor McGaughey all got onto the field.
The ball was turned over in the centre of the field by the rampaging Bolton forwards and good work by the centre Kier Kernick saw his reward with a try which was converted by Ben Turner.
The forwards were dominating the home team and after excellent work by them once again Ben Turner saw space behind the home sides back three and kicked the ball for James Evans and Tom Knight-Rigler to chase with James just pipping Tom to the ball to touch down.
Heaton Moor seemed to tire now and didn’t seem in the game, Tom Crook went on one of his ‘wrecking ball’ runs and after at least 5 missed tackles scored and thoroughly deserved his try. Milo converted the score.
Bolton killed off the home side with good play by James Evans, Ben Turner and Milo Holmes keeping the ball alive led to a scrum to Bolton 5 metres out. A sneaky diversionary run by Alex Greenhalgh from the number 8 position drew the Heaton Moor defence across leaving James McDowell at scrum half to score the final points for Bolton just before the final whistle. Final score 5 v 41
A satisfying win after the difficult and arduous league games recently.
