Forwards dominate but breakaway tries prove costly

Bolton u15's entertained Sefton in round 2 of the league and what a match it proved to be. Bolton started the stronger team but Sefton had secret weapons in the back line full of speed and agility.
Sefton opened the scoring after just 10 minutes with a well worked try which was directly under the posts. The try was converted and Bolton found themselves 7 v 0 down.
Bolton were missing two regular hookers away on holiday so Owen Patel accepted the challenge to play hooker and Harry Dawber agreed to throw the ball in at the line out.
With these changes Bolton struggled in the set pieces and often Sefton won the ball at the scrum starving the Bolton backs of the ball. However Bolton rallied round and after great forward pressure in the opposition 22 Kier Kernick crashed over for their first try which James Evans converted 7 v 7. Bolton's forwards started to dominate their opposition with particularly good strong runs from Alex Greenhalgh, Matty Moore and Alfie Kay. They were only stopped at times by dubious high tackling.
Sefton had the last say of the half after once again their pacy winger found himself with acres of space and touch down under the Bolton posts. This try was converted and the score at half time was 7 v 14. Bolton clawed their way back into the game. Tom Crook moved to prop, Harry went to hooker, Owen dropped onto the back row along with Milo and James McDowell came on at 9 and Sam Dawson took Elvis Majanja's place. The line outs started to improve along with the scrums for Bolton and after 5 minutes camped on the Sefton line after great forward play the ball was shipped wide for winger Josh Grundy to score in the corner.
Unfortunately the wind blew the ball from the kicking tee as the clock ticked down and there was total confusion in what to do next as Sefton stole the ball from the hapless full back James Evans. Fortunately nothing came of the wrong refereeing decision.
With the score now at 12 v 14 the game could have swung anyway but Sefton managed to intercept a misplaced pass in the centre of the field and raced away to score under the posts. 12 v 21.
Sefton had the final say once again after their pacy winger was given too much room and scored once more before the final whistle. The final score of 12 v 26 did not reflect the gutsy performance of the home team which dominated large chunks of the game but lost to three break away tries which made all the difference. Both teams played with spirit and were clearly up for it.
Tackler's award went to Tom Crook, with most contribution to Milo Holmes, and player of the match award went to Harry Dawber playing out of position and some great line out throwing.
