Bolton travelled to Preston with a long injury list, though a squad was assembled for the league match, additional injuries to two of the big ball carriers during the game didn’t help matters. With neither of usual scrum halves available fullback James Evans stepped in and performed well (Thanks James). With the first attack the Bolton forwards showed promise and gained territory, though the ball was turned over and the Preston backline pounced and ran the ball in from the halfway line. Bolton were soon 2 trys down with only 5 mins on the clock. The flow of the game continued to too and fro with Preston running in 4 more tries before half time with their superb backline causing Bolton no end of problems and so the match was over. The second half was played as a training session, with the game following a similar pattern, the Bolton defence having trouble with the Preston backs.
Credit to the team they never let their heads drop and gave 100%. The forwards were really good in the scrum and around the break down in attack. Problems were being corrected as the match progressed between the players which was good to see. If we can think a bit clearer on the pitch and improve the defence things will look a lot better. Good effort lads.
