Close encounter in gale force conditions

Bolton switched fixtures and travelled to Fleetwood for this league game after Bolton's pitches were deemed unplayable.
With gale force winds coming off the Irish Sea it was going to be a difficult game for both sides.

As predicted Fleetwood played the first half with the wind and the game merely comprised of ruck after ruck up the middle of the park.

Great forward runs by Alfie Kay, Dan Southworth and Abdullah Hussain made lots of ground but lack of support meant Fleetwood turned over to much ball, with assistance from the match official.

Fleetwood scored first in the first half but Bolton soon got the bit between their teeth and great forward play saw Morgan Skeels-Caldwell go over.
Ben Turner was unable to convert it in the howling wind.
At half time it was 5-5

Five substitutions were made at half time allowing the travelling players to get on the field.

At 5 a piece the two teams were equally matched.

Fleetwood scored their second try half way through the second half which was unconverted 10-5.
Bolton never gave up and pressed hard and all their hard work was thought to have paid off when captain Dan Southworth went over for a well worked try but he was deemed by the referee to have knocked it on and no try was awarded.
All the good pressure in the opposition 22 had come to nothing.
Fleetwood came strong towards the end of the game and scored once more which was converted putting Bolton out of range for their losing bonus point. The game ended 17-5 to what in effect was the away team. Can't help thinking the score line would have been very different had Bolton been able to play at home. But the decision was made to switch so the players could get playing time. Maybe not the right decision after this result but it is all about the taking part and not the winning.
Final score 17-5 to Fleetwood.
Tackler of the match was Dan Southworth who never stopped tackling all day.
Most contribution was Kier Kernick with some great foraging runs.
Player of the match was Alfie Kay who took the ball to the opposition time and time again.
