Down to earth with a bump for the U15s this weekend after a testing experience at Vale of Lune. Playing on the first team pitch, Bolton started slowly and were a try down within the first 2 minutes. Vale played a tight compact game that the Cherry and Whites struggled to break through. After the restart Boltons forwards carried the ball well and made ground steadily up the pitch. With big carried from Joe McHugh, Jake Ryan and Jordan Griffiths. Vale were very organised in defense and both teams were cancelling each other out in the middle of the pitch.
It took 18 minutes for Bolton to score and it came from multiple phases, starting from a scrum and quick ball the Bolton outside centre Dom Hardy made great ground and the forwards of Joe Macay and Jack Byrne took the gain line forward. Bolton scrum half Jack Philips took the ball quickly from the ruck passing to number 10 Jos Winstanley who broke the Vale line, offloading in the tackle to Jimmy Holland who scored under the posts. After half time the cracks appeared in the Bolton defense and Vale turned up the pressure. Bolton started to tire defending for long periods and it was only a matter of time before Vale started to score.
Bolton travel to the Vale in January for a league fixture and have plenty to think about.
Final score Vale of Lune 33 Bolton 7
