With half term and injury claiming many Bolton players it was a much changed side that stepped onto the pitch in what turned out to be a bruising encounter with Colne and Nelson.
Bolton had plenty of forwards but were thin on the ground for backs. Using winger Joe Brooks as full back the Cherry and White had Issac Woods and Sam Hart as wingers, with Prop Alex Tonge playing at inside centre.
On a heavy pitch the Bolton pack made early ground and were physical in contact, but showed signs of not playing for a few weeks some early phases were lost trying to force the game and it took the big second row forward Darren Robinson to smash over the line for the first try. That settled Bolton and they were soon back into the phases of play, keeping the ball well in the forwards. Colne could only put boot to ball when they got any possession and that allowed Bolton to run back at them.
Deep into the first half after come great team play stretching the Colne defence Alex Tonge was unstoppable from 5 meters out and Bolton doubled the lead. Half time the Cherry and Whites lead 14-0
Colne started brightly in the second half and used their big forwards to grab a try.
Bolton responded with more dominant forward possession and once the defenders were tied in released winger Sam Hart to go more than half the length of the pitch for his first try in Bolton colours.
Changes in the Bolton team saw winger and centre being replaced leaving a flanker and second row forward in the backs, still Colne couldn't find a way through the Bolton defence.
Sensing more points Bolton pressed hard and again used the forwards to draw in defenders, Colne tackled valiantly but couldn't stop Dom Hardy from adding a fourth try.
Final score - Colne and Nelson 7 - Bolton 24
