Bolton Slay Sedgley

On Sunday 28th January Bolton U15's made the trip to Sedgley Park. With the home team short on numbers Tom Platt and Oliver Carberry graciously started the game in opposition colours.

Bolton's first try came from the kick off with George Whitehead bulldozing his way over for a try in the corner with James Harris adding the extras. Bolton crossed again within minutes of the restart with another forwards try from Connah Mansfield. This set the tone for the game with the forwards dominating Sedgley, expertly led by the trio of James Harris, James Sharples and Josh Padmore.

The back line were eager to show off their skills and it wasn't long before Myles Garth crossed for 2 of his 3 tries, adding the extras from out wide. Lewis Picton and Seb Donnelly also crossed with great team tries breaking through the line with explosive power, cutting the defensive line to ribbons. Myles Garth brought the first half to a close a great individual try, with James Harris again adding the extras leaving the score 0-43 to Bolton.

At half time both coaches made some changes to the teams with a number of Bolton players switching with Sedgley players to provide a greater balance to this friendly. Myles started the second half as the first ended with his 4th try but then Sedgley hit back with two unanswered scores, both caused by a lack of Bolton discipline and unneeded chatter to the referee. The changes made at half time resulted in a much more competitive game with Tom Simpson in particular showing the home side the way to ruck Bolton off their own ball.

This seemed to wake the Bolton pack up again and they started to secure good quality ball, allowing the back line to show their clinical finishing with Oliver Carberry and Lewis Picton crossing before the finish. The final score was 12-58 to Bolton.

A very dominant team performance from Bolton with both the forward and backs linking up well throughout the game.

Bolton's next game is a crucial cup match away to old rivals Aldwinians on the 11th February.
