AKA The One Where Josh Moore showed his skills

The first weekend of the half term holidays meant that numbers were limited today to the Bare minimum of 15 Blackburn arrived with 16 that included a few new lads. The weather was beautiful it was mild, dry and calm, the pitch was in perfect condition and it was all set up for a great open running match.

Blackburn opted to receive the kick out and the match is underway. Initially the two teams spent some time finding their feet but it was Bolton that scored first with Sam Atherton putting pressure on the Blackburn scrum half from a lineout and then being the first to ground the ball over the line after it was fumbled. The game continued with a scrapy period with possession being turned over in the rucks but Bolton were making ground through the forwards Ben Malevaille and Sam Atherton in the thick of the action. With the ball recycled from the ruck quickly on Blackburn’s 5m line and their defence narro,.Oliver Keogh popped the ball for Harry McDermott to find a gap and score, converted by Ben Price. The next try was a well worked with a set move that came off, from a scrum on the Blackburn 22m line the ball spun out by Sam McDowell gave Ben Price the time to put a perfectly weighted chip in behind the on rushing defence, that bounced up perfectly for Oliver Keogh for a well deserved try, converted. This signaled half time whistle making it Bolton 19 : Blackburn 0

The second half started with Blackburn starting in better form. They cleared ruck efficiently and spread the ball about. They had some strong runners and some clever interlinking play allowed them to break through some tackles to score a try. Blackburn 5 points.

Bolton seemed to settle into a rhythm with the forwards driving up the middle and then spreading the ball wide for the wingers to have some runs. Leo Hope-Barry and Cameron Milton both made ground with their attacks but this half the 2 backs that claimed to glory for the team’s hard work were Leon Hodson and Josh Moore.

Leon Hodson was back to his usual form and today scoring 2 tries. The first came after a break down the left side from Leo Hope-Barry, after the breakdown he picks it up put in a trademark hand off that gives him space to accelerate to the line with tacklers hanging off him. The second was a great angle of run against the play, breaking through the tackle and scoring under the posts. Josh Moore’s first came from the forwards driving and recycling the ball before releasing Keogh who saw the space out wide and put a kick through that Josh was a gather and score the second was a solo effort. After picking the ball up on the right wing without much room on the halfway line he stepped one defender, outpaced the next and when confronted with 3 more in front of him he put a deft little kick through that he picked up and scored. He then scored the conversion to end the match Bolton 47: 5 Blackburn.

Blackburn had a strong scrum and worked hard in the rucks and mauls to gain territory and disrupt Boltons plays. They showed heart and kept going until the end.
