against a combative De la Salle side.
The game started brightly, but soon descended into a midfield scrap with both sides failing to find any rhythm with the ball allowing defences to dominate. The referee grew increasing frustrated with both sides as players decided to offer their advice rather than get on with the game. A De La Salle penalty was the sum total of the scoring in the first half.
In the second half Bolton finally took control after the referee had lost patience with the visitors and yellow carded the captain, and Niall Murphy scored the only try after a Jack Robinson break. Mark Doherty added the conversation and a penalty to finish the scoring. Although De la Salle came back strongly at the end Bolton’s defence and they head into the next round.
Special mention must go to the several young products of Bolton’s excellent division and especially Ryan McCluskey and Charlie Aylett making their senior debuts.
