Heaton Moor 7 Bolton 49

Bolton played Heaton Moor in the Semi-final of the Lancashire Plate Cup and came away worthy winners to secure a place in the final.
Bolton went into the match having had a bad run of form in the last four matches, but they bounced back against Heaton Moor with some very good finishing and hard running from the forwards. The backs and forwards played in unison to create eight trues.
The match started with both sides contesting at the breakdown in the scrums and lineouts and there was not much between the sides. Bolton were awarded a penalty in the fifteenth minute and Joe Speakman converted it. In the twenty-second minute Will Bate broke off a back of a ruck in Heaton Moor’s twenty-two to score a great individual try and Speakman added the conversion. Bolton had a scrum on the Heaton Moor five metre line and Niall Murphy drove over for a try in the twenty-sixth minute which Speakman converted again. Bolton were dominating nearly all the exchanges, were keeping the ball well and moving the ball wide. In the thirty-first minute the ball went wide again. Slick handling put Jack Robinson in for a try and again Speakman added the conversion. To finish Bolton’s scoring in the first hal,f Jack Robinson scored his second try in the thirty-seventh minute. Bolton went into half-time leading 29 – 0
A sloppy start by Bolton allowed Heaton Moor a relatively easy try at the start of the second half which they converted. From the re-start Bolton secured the ball and some great play between Louis Critchlow and Joe Speakman put Ryan McClusky over to score in the forty-fifth minute. Three minutes later Jack Robinson scored his third try of the afternoon. At this point Bolton were in command in almost all aspects of play. The pace that Bolton were playing at was too quick for Heaton Moor and gaps were appearing in their defence. Will Bate, in the sixty-third minute took a quick penalty and Louis Critchlow took the pass off Will and scored a try in the corner. Bolton’s final try of the afternoon, in the seventy fifth minute, was a break from the scrum and Captain, Rhys Pritchard split the defence and scored.
The final the score Heaton Moor 7 Bolton 49.
Bolton’s performance was much better than in previous weeks; their passing, ball retention and finishing was so much better and the pace they played the game was also very pleasing.
Next week's home game vs top of the league Keswick will be a much more difficult fixture.
