Bolton 42 Aspatria 29

This game was always going to be a challenge for Bolton. The fixture had already been called off twice due to the inclement weather. Both teams needed a win to further their progress in the league.
The game started with Bolton showing why they have done so well this year; they tackled well and moved the ball into space. They were rewarded with a try in the sixth minute which Ryan McClusky scored from a driving maul. Aspatria came back in the thirteenth minute with a converted try to lead 7 -5. In the sixteenth minute Mike Mills converted a penalty for Bolton to take the lead again. Bolton were now showing far greater consistency and held on to the ball well and were making inroads in the Aspatria defence. In the twenty-second minute Jack Robinson scored a good try which Mike Mills converted. He then added a penalty in the twenty-fourth minute. Bolton at this stage deserved their scores and in the twenty-eighth minute Niall Murphy scored a try from a good run from Jack Robinson, Mills converted again. They finished off the half in the thirty-second minute by Mike Mills converting a penalty.
Half-time score: Bolton 28 Aspatria 7
There was no doubt that Aspatria were going to come back in the second half with their big forwards running hard and cause Bolton some problems. Bolton opened the scoring with a lovely inside ball form James Singleton to Louis Critchlow, who crashed over. Mills added the conversion. Aspatria started to play with a bit more authority and scored a good try in the sixty-fifth minute. Bolton had a good drive near Aspatria’s line and Niall Murphy went over for his second try of the afternoon which Alex Waddicar converted. Bolton began to tire in the last ten minutes and conceded two tries; one was well worked and the other was a bit of a give-away.
Full time score: Bolton 42 Aspatria 29
Bolton were the better side on the day and deserved the win. This is their twelve win in a row and now they are second position in the league. With three matches to go, can they sustain this winning streak? The Man of the Match was Mike Mills. That said, there were some really good performances from many of the team
