Bolton 38 Liverpool Collegiate 0

The Cherry and Whites entertained Liverpool Collegiate at The Avenue on a very misty, rainy Saturday afternoon.
Bolton could not have started the game any better. Alex Waddicar took the kick-off and the Liverpool second row palmed the ball towards his line. Will Bate caught the ball and rounded the fullback to score. This must be a league record for the fastest try of the season. It took all of fifteen seconds. Six minutes later, Will Bate made a break and great support saw the ball get to Josh Holmes and finally to Alex Waddicar to score. Mike Mills added the conversion. In the ninth minute, another attack down the wing saw Josh Holmes pass to Rhys Pritchard who scored Bolton’s third try. Mike Mills added the conversion. In the fifteenth minute Andrew Wood made an excellent break and passed the ball to Josh Holmes, who in turn passed the ball for Alex Waddicar to score. At last the spectators were able to draw breath after this amazing passage of play. The last try of the half came in the twenty-fifth minute when Gaz Pritchard intercepted a pass from Liverpool and ran fifty metres to score under the posts. Mike Mills added the conversion. It was an enthralling half of rugby from Bolton.
Half-time score: Bolton 31 Liverpool Collegiate 0
Liverpool must have had a good talking to from their coach at half-time as they started the second much better. They took the game to Bolton and tested Bolton’s defence thoroughly. In the fiftieth minute Alex Waddicar caught a high ball, ran and passed to Will Bate. Andrew Wood was in support and took the pass from Will and passed on to Harry Stocks to score. This was Harry’s first appearance for the first team this year. Bolton stepped off the ‘Gas’ a bit at this stage and Liverpool were attacking through their forwards and they re-cycled the ball well. Bolton did have one or two chances to increase their lead, but it was not to be. It did not help matters because Bolton had two players sinned almost consecutively, so they played the last twenty minutes with fourteen men. Liverpool tried very hard to score but Bolton held them out to the final whistle.
Final score: Bolton 38 Liverpool Collegiate 0
In the first twenty minutes Bolton played some seriously good rugby and scored some beautiful tries. The penalty count was very high for Bolton and this kept Liverpool in the game. Liverpool worked hard in the second half and their defence was much better.
Man of the Match: Will Bate.
