Bolton 19 De La Salle 33

As the first team welcomed De La Salle to The Avenue on Saturday, it was also great to see teams from Burnage and Bury, who were playing Bolton’s second and third teams. The weather was good with a wind blowing across the pitch.
Bolton started the game very well by putting pressure on the De La Salle defence and were able to score the first try after ten minutes; from a kick ahead and a great chase, Jack Robinson went over to score. Joe Speakman added the conversion. De La salle got their act together with their large forwards making effective runs at the Bolton defence. In the sixteenth minute, they went over for their first try of the afternoon. Bolton came close on quite a few occasions to increasing their score but handling errors and poor decision making thwarted these attempts. De La Salle added to their score in the thirty second minute and went into the lead at half time.

De La Salle started the second half with greater direction and scored a try out wide to increase their lead. Bolton were not out of it and tried valiantly to stop their big runners. De La Salle scored a further two tries to take a commanding lead. Bolton were not done yet, coming back strongly to score through Simon Frost’s strong running and determination. Will Bate added the conversion. Bolton scored another try right at the end of the game, when James Singleton dived over from a ruck close to the De La Salle’s line.

The game was littered with yellow cards for both sides, especially in the second half, which didn’t help either team. Bolton, in places, played some good rugby but lack of accuracy in their finishing did not help. De La Salle ran hard and straight and made life difficult for Bolton.
