Their hosts had only lost one match all season, but in form Bolton fancied their chances prior to kick off, and their positive attitude meant they started the match well and enjoyed some early possession and territory.
Bolton's bright start appeared to knock their hosts off their stride, and as Bolton were dominant at the set piece, they turned down two kickable penalties in Tarleton's 22, only for the resulting chances to go begging.
Despite not taking their chances, the cherry and whites were more than holding their own against the promotion favourites, limiting them to chances in broken play.
The Bolton pack led by Sam Hilton, were running strongly, with Chris Mee and Dave Ormes proving to be willing runners.
The score was 0-0 at half time, and Bolton knew that their hosts would come at them strongly in the second period. This was to happen with the home side setting up camp in Bolton's half. Bolton defended resolutely, but the pressure was beginning to tell, and after the referee had sin binned two Bolton players for infringements at the breakdown, Tarleton took their opportunities to score, and they scored their two tries while Bolton were down to thirteen men.
Feeling aggrieved, Bolton rallied when they were back to their full compliment, and there were opportunities for them to gain a vital losing bonus point. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be, but Bolton can be satisfied that they gave their hosts one of their toughest matches of the season, conceding no points while it was fifteen a side.
Bolton's next challenge comes at home on Saturday against Garstang, where they will be confident of getting back to winning ways.
