BOLTON retained their hopes of a second placed finish in North Lancs 1 with a comprehensive nine try victory over local rivals Bury.

Whilst the result was never in doubt, Bolton rarely reached the high level of performance that they have shown in recent weeks.

Bolton exerted their dominance early on with fly half Will Bate running through some poor Bury tackling to score the first of his two tries after 5 minutes. Mark Doherty kicked the first if his six successful conversions to set Bolton on their way.

The Cherry and Whites continued to have a stranglehold on possession and territory, with Rhys Pritchard being the next player to capitalise, finishing well in the corner, for the first of his brace of tries.

With Bolton's pack providing the physicality up front, with man of the match Gaz Pritchard proving to be particularly influential, it was clear the three quarters would be the beneficiaries of an abundance of possession on a fine day for running rugby.

The next Bolton player to cross the whitewash was captain Dave Bruen, who finished off a fine run from Mike Richardson to stroll in unopposed under the posts.

Bolton secured their four try bonus point before the half hour mark when Bate slalomed through the Bury defence to touch down under the posts. Doherty converted, and the half time score was 26-0 to Bolton.

Despite their control of the match, Bolton were guilty of squandering several opportunities and required greater ruthlessness in the second period. This was provided by Louis Critchlow who ran through a raft of would be Bury tacklers, and ran twenty metres to score a fine individual try.

Rhys Pritchard then scored his second with a trademark elusive run and finish, before Danny Joseph provided the finish on the wing to a fine passing move started by accurate distribution from Nick Lever and Bruen.

Gaz Pritchard was at the bottom of a driving maul to score on the hour mark and cap of his MOM performance, before Joseph scored his second to complete the scoring.

Bolton's next match is away against North Manchester, where a bonus point victory is needed to challenge for second place and a play off opportunity to gain promotion.
