Will Bate inspired the cherry and whites with a brace of first half tries rounding off a man of the match performance.
Workington started the match in powerful fashion, unleashing their imposing forward runners at the Bolton defensive line. Bolton stood form however, with Matthew Parrish, Gaz Pritchard and captain Chris Cockton all putting in huge early defensive efforts.
This defensive work paid off as against the run of play, Dave Bruen committed the Zebra's midfield and released Will Bate, who made a trademark break, to score the opening try of the match after five minutes. Nick Lever converted and the home side's early energy seemed to have been sapped.
Seventeen minutes later, the rampant Bate was again cleverly found by Bruen, and he scorched under the posts to score his and Bolton's second try. Despite Bolton's three quarters scoring the points, the pack were providing an excellent platform at both scrum and line out time and they were having to defend resolutely against Workington's preferred driving maul tactics.
After half an hour, Lever extended Bolton's lead with a penalty, which was soon added to when the Pritchard brothers both scored. Gaz Pritchard crossed the line first after more strong work from Bolton's pack. Three minutes later, older brother Rhys dived in at the corner after a slick backs move. Gaz Pritchard scored his second and Bolton's fifth try just before the half time whistle.
In what was a breathless attacking display in the first half, Bolton were 37-3 in the lead, with the four try bonus point already secured.
There was the inevitable backlash from the home side in the second half, but early tries from Mike Richardson and Alex Youngman seemed to put the game beyond the Zebras. However after Bolton were reduced to fourteen men following a controversial yellow card to Captain Cockton, Bolton visibly took their foot off the gas and for the last twenty minutes, they allowed Workington to score three tries of their own.
Having dominated for an hour, this lacklustre final twenty minutes left somewhat of a sour taste in the mouth of the Bolton players, who despite being suitably pleased with the win and the bonus point, will be aware that they will need to perform for the full 80 minutes to enjoy more victories in the league this season.
Bolton are next in action on Saturday at home against Whitehaven.
