Bolton knew heading to Littleborough would be a tough affair with ‘borough having an impressive home record...

...and also seemed completely bamboozled by the move to early kick offs with a plethora of people arriving late, drunk or not at all.

Still onto the squad, club stalwart Pete Marriott was back to fill his familiar center birth, Will Swift returned onto the wing and Tom ‘Tevez’ Price slotted in at his favoured full back position.

In the pack John ‘sicknote’ Stryker returned at Number 8, while former colt Ian Saunders slotted into the second row. Special mention must go to ginger warrior scrum half Rob Terry who in a last minute switcheroo stepped into and didn’t look out of place in the back row to cover the notable absence of captain Nick Sandbrook who apparently had been selected to watch the 1sts. Anyway to the rugby.

It was a poor start from the cherry and whites as Bolton struggled to lay hands on Littleborough’s elusive backs and were getting caught out when the ball was spread wide and by a few wayward kicks, ‘boroughs 15 in particular caused problems all day long. As such they very quickly fell behind to 3 first half tries. The final ten of the half suggested a Bolton fightback with Danny Ryder causing trouble with a few stepping runs and some flowing off loading rugby seeing Bolton making ground. Dave Ormes and Jay Cheetham deserving mention for their committed running that would continue all afternoon. With an added sprinkling of Mark Crow stealing ball at the scrum for fun Bolton pressured on ‘boroughs line but were unable to take any of their chances to score.

H/T

A short lived comeback was the tale of the start of the second half, with ‘Borough with a man in the bin following the late first half pressure Bolton sprang into life and sensed a chance. Good running from Dave Ormes and Will Swift put them in striking distance and then good hands from the backs found Stuart Evans free on the wing to go over in the corner. Conversion missed. Unfortunately the comeback was short lived, with a full complement again and aided by Bolton’s disastrous tackling display Littleborough again found gaps and the tries came flooding in.

The only Bolton bright spot being a consolation try, another backs move found resident Giraffe Jeremy Rees looping onto the wing to collect Stuart Evans’ pass and to dab down in the corner. Conversion again missed.

And that as they say was that. F/T Score Littleborough 60 – Bolton 10.

Fraser Hart MOM – David Ormes.
