In this weekend’s fixture Bolton’s 2nd XV had the chance to secure 2nd spot in the North West’s premier division “The Raging Bull Elephant / Crouching Stick Insect Division 2 North”. They had the chance against a young fierce enthusiast Eccles 2XV in an away fixture adjacent to the mighty M60 motorway.
Bolton’s travelling players seems disjointed throughout the afternoon but should have won this fixture, sloppy mistakes and disorganisation meant Eccles scored a breakaway try with 10-20mins left on the clock.
Excellent running games came from Bolton’s centre partnerships, the bald eagle pairings of McDermott and Brogan, and Winger Ryan “DJ assistant” Wignall meant Bolton dominated possession throughout a game which saw Eccles well organised pack out shine their backline, but this still saw Bolton on top in most areas apart from the ruck.
Without blaming anyone for the mishap, Mike “STD” Singleton* gave the try away. Up until that point Bolton had been 8-3 to the good in what was always going to be a close low scoring fixture.
To brighten spirits the following song is dedicated to next week and the crucial game against Littleborough 2XV at home where Bolton need to regain their momentum; This song derives from the Aladdin classic “A whole new world”:
Keech can show you the world
Avenue Street is Shining, shimmering, splendid
Tell me Mark Crow, now when did
You last let Rose West decide?
Terry can open your eyes
Take you wonder by wonder
Over, sideways and under
On a magic Rob Terry ride
A whole new world
A new fantastic chance to win
No Lesh T to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we're only dreaming
Avenue Street world
A dazzling place I never knew
But, now, from way up here
It's crystal clear
That now I'm in a whole new world with you
Unbelievable Skills
Indescribable feeling
Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling
Through an endless Pete Brogan sky
Mark Townsend’s world
(Don't you dare close your eyes)
A hundred thousand things to see
(Hold your breath it gets better)
I'm like a partially deaf shooting star
Who’s come so far
I can't go back to where I used to be (Lostock)
A Murtagh world
With new strawberry blonde highlights to pursue
Danny Flow Ryder will chase them anywhere
There's time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you
A whole new world
A manager Marriott point of view
He’ll tell us no
Only a solid 90 mins to go
Or say we're only dreaming
A whole new world
(Every Kinder surprise)
With higher league positions to pursue
(Every moment a red-letter)
We’ll chase them anywhere
There's time to spare
Anywhere, there's time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you
A Cadbury’s world
That's where we'll be
A thrilling chase
A wondrous place
For you and me
