Late arrivals meant that preparation for the game was minimal, but Bolton made a good start playing with the blustery wind.
Returning player Andy Jolly made inroads into the Colne half, with support from centre Jack Cormican. The back row of Eric Cruice, Mark Higgins and Sam Windmill were always there or thereabouts in support.
From one attack down the right side, Bolton pushed almost to the Colne line. From the scrum restart, Bolton won the ball, number 8 picked up and drove into the Colne defence. From his pass to the bootlaces of Windmill, but big Sam reached down, collected and stretched over the line to score.
Much middle of the park play ensued with Bolton looking the dominant team. Just. Late in the first half, the Colne 8 drove towards the Bolton line and made the touch down. The conversion was added.
Half time: Colne - 7, Bolton - 5
In the second half, Bolton’s scrum came under great pressure and keeping their own ball became difficult and the big Colne runners progressed forward, to feed their back row and backs. An early long-range try was conceded. Thru the second half a further 3 similar tries were also leaked, as Bolton’s once solid defence failed to rise to the challenge.
