Bolton started as they had done the previous week and put Leigh under pressure from the off. Keith Howie opened Bolton’s account as he took the penalty points following Leigh infringements.
As the match progressed, the Bolton scrum began to push Leigh off their own ball and from this Dan Travis powered over for Bolton’s first try. Howie added the extras. Following further spells of pressure, Bolton University student, Victor Alaoye stretched over to score his first try for the club. He picked up an injury whilst scoring, which needed a whole plaster to cover his scratch. Howie closed the scoring in the half with a further penalty.
Half time score, Leigh - 0 Bolton - 18.
Shortly after the second half started, Leigh elected to go for uncontested scrums, which took away a big advantage for Bolton. Sure of their own ball, and relieved of the effort of holding the Bolton scrum, the Leigh forwards came into the game and scored from both of their visits into the Bolton 22.
Bolton though, always had the edge, and older brother Wayne Gaskell powered over the line from 1m out and crashed to the ground to score his first try for the team, to match that of his younger brother last week. We believe they are still digging for two of the Leigh players who were carried over with him!
A good all round team performance.
Final score Leigh 14 Bolton 23
