...with both teams being shorthanded because of missing opposition players.
Then Mark Doherty carried on as he had finished last week with a fine solo run to break the deadlock. He converted his own try. Within minutes the backs had released Jack Dickinson who touched down under the posts. The conversion again was added. Bolton now were in the ascendancy and Jamie Newboy was off down the wing, around his man to score his first points for the club. Orrell responded with a try of their own just before half-time.
An early second half try was added by Les Towler as he chased his own kick and collected the bouncing ball to score under the posts. Captain Keith Howie adding the conversion. Nathan Jevons added another after he was put into space by the forwards. Shortly after, a clever move by Orrell put their centre into clear space to go over for his second try. Howie was foiled just short of the line as he nipped round the blind side of a ruck, and it was left to Mark Robinson to pick up and drive, unopposed to score. As the game drew to a close, and the weather took its toll, Simon Braithwaite popped over the line to add Bolton’s final points. Orrell added another try in the last minute and the ref finally blew.
