From the start the Bolton team was lethargic, showing little of the energy and drive that has served them well in recent weeks. Indeed Fleetwood opened the scoring after lax tackling allowed their player to score. Bolton responded, and within 5 minutes had taken play to the opposition 22. Keith Howie spotted the gap and went behind to score under the posts. Conversion added. The game settled to a midfield battle of attrition, with Bolton dominating the scrum, and Fleetwood taking the line-outs. A further Fleetwood try and conversion was met with a Bolton response of another try from Gaz Flounders. Fleetwood added another try before half-time and Bolton added penalty. Fleetwood lead 17 – 15.
The second half was more of the same, with Fleetwood’s influential centre making the breaks to move Fleetwood towards the Bolton try-line. Finally they added a further unconverted try. Bolton added another penalty to their tally, but their slow start, poor tackling and a so-so performance weren’t enough. Final score Fleetwood 22 – Bolton 4th 18.
