Bolton started well, with good early pressure in the Clitheroe half. From a scrum the ball went out to the backs to the stand-off who popped it back inside to number 8, Mark Higgins, who was stopped just short of the line. However he had time to pass it back out to the supporting Andy Jolly who went over to score, also adding the conversion, 7 – 0. This as followed by some poor tackling which allowed Clitheroe to score in the corner, 7 – 5. Further lasting pressure from Clitheroe eventually told, as the suspiciously good number 12 makes the decisive break thru the Bolton line before off loading, 7 – 10. Bolton returned the game to the Clitheroe half and I a near identical score, Jolly returned the favour to Higgins, who powered over the line, 12 -10. Before the half closed, Clitheroe scored a further two tries, 12 – 22.
The second half started poorly and continued, as Clitheroe used a strong bench to swing play their way, scoring a further five unanswered tries. Fortunately the kicker was having a terrible day as he only manage to convert one, 12 – 49. Bolton scored a late consolation try, when Matt Robinson, playing his last game for the club went over to score a rare try, 17 – 49.
The 4th team have had better days. The result means that Bolton 5th in the league. Clitheroe were already promoted and we wish them well for next season
