Bigfoot tramples Bolton

With 6 cry-off on the day and 2 no-shows (thanks lads !), the cold weather seemed to have taken its toll on the Bolton team. But the team was buoyed by the return of 65 year-old Charlie Walton declaring his availability again, the return of Stuart Macdonald fresh from having new Velcro pads attached to his hands and former junior player France s Broughton making his first appearance for the senior side. So, it was with a mere 12 players that Bolton set off to Fleetwood. On arrival, the positively balmy 7deg temperature was a welcome relief, quickly dissipated as Fleetwood’s ‘man mountain’ was spotted. Team manager Towler was coerced into donning his cold weather playing gear again and Bolton took to the field with 13 men. In fact Bolton started the better, as they repeatedly ran attacks at Fleetwood. But there was no way thru as they either ran out of players, or ran into the man mountain. New centre Rhys Forlife looked promising, but took an early knock and had to leave the field. Having already scored two tries, Fleetwood gamely lent Bolton a player. Indeed it was the Fleetwood player, John, who scored against his own team when student Sam Roblett popped him a short ball, to allow him to burrow over at the side of the maul. But the shortage of numbers and the lack of sasquatch traps eventually told and Bolton played on bravely but the final result was never in doubt.
A gutsy performance, Bolton’s heads never dropped.
