With a cast of thousands, actually 26 (all 4th team regulars, except one1, a 3rd team prop who played so that we could have contested scrums), it was going to be difficult to perform consistently throughout this game.
With a good start, it was Bolton who put pressure on the Preston line. Andy Jolly forced his way over to open the scoring. He missed the easy kick ! 5 - 0.
As the half progressed, Bolton were awarded a penalty under the Preston posts. As they elected to run it, a smart move from Jolly saw him go over for his second. Conversion added. 12 - 0.
With no further scores and changes made at half time, Preston came back into the game. A converted try from a close range scrum, 12 - 7.
As Bolton pushed back down into the Preston half, they were awarded a penalty out wide. Jolly elected to go for the posts and the ball sailed sweetly between the posts, 15 - 7.
More swaps and changes and Bolton's rhythm was lost. Preston came back with another try, 15 - 12.
Bolton strengthened the team towards the end and it was enough to hold onto the slim lead.
