Bolton U18s back on winning form

Bolton U18s score a great victory over Sedgley winning 38-5

At long last the Bolton U18s were able to field a full 15 and their confidence showed from the start. Sedgley kicked off, and it was an excellent kick, chased very quickly by their winger, who caught the ball. Callum Naylor got in a quick tackle, and Rohan Patel and Nathan Collins forced the ball out of play. Sedgely continued to attack, but some great tackling by Tom Evans and Ben Richardson put them under pressure, and they conceded a penalty. A great kick by David Price got the ball back in Sedgley’s half with a line out for Bolton. Line outs proved to be a real strength for Bolton during the game, with great throw-ins by Matthew Chowdhury and great catches by Paddy Hargreaves, well supported by Morgan Smith and Callum Naylor. Bolton were now on the attack, and their forwards showed their strength, with strong runs from Nathan Collins and Jonny Wallis. The ball was picked up by Morgan Smith, who passed swiftly to Jamie Currie, who got the ball out to Rohan Patel and then Adam Hackin who scored Bolton’s first try, 5-0 to Bolton.
Sedgely kicked off, and this time the ball was skilfully caught by Morgan Smith, passing the ball to Jonny Wallis and the ball went quickly down the line to Adam Hackin, Sam Smith and Rohan Patel. Good defence from Sedgely saw a scrum, but Bolton stole the ball and David Price kicked up the field where the ball was picked up by Sam Smith who made a great run, passing out to Nathan Collins who was tackled just short of the line. Sedgely had the line out, but Tom Evans pounced on the ball and passed to Rohan who flicked it to Nathan who saw an opportunity and passed to Jonny Wallis 20metres out, he charged forward, and Sedgley could not stop him, 5 points under the posts. David Price converted leaving the score 12-0.
The second half saw Sedgely score a very quick try, so with the score at 12-5 Bolton knew they had to keep the pressure on. Slick hands from Adam Hackin, Matty Baum, Jamie Currie and Rohan Patel worked the ball well, and then Bolton were awarded a scrum. The Bolton pack drove the ball forward, before Harvey Banks ran forward, passing the ball to Jonny Wallis who stormed forward, wrong footing the Sedgley defence and scoring another try, converted by David, 19-5 to Bolton. The kick off saw Nathan Collins catch the ball, passing it to David Price who made a good run. Some great attacking work saw a Bolton scrum at the 15m line. They drove the ball to the line, enabling Nathan Collins to drive over for a try, 24-5 to Bolton.
Nathan Collins once again caught the ball from the kick-off and drove forward strongly, Jonny Wallis took over and made good ground. With Sedgely on the back foot Sam Smith broke through the defence on half way, rounded the full back at pace and touched down just to the right of the posts, 31-5 to Bolton.
Sedgely continued to attack, but Bolton’s defence was excellent, Jamie Currie, Harvey Banks, Matthew Chowdhury, Tom Evans, Sam Smith and Paddy Hargreaves never missing a tackle, David Price producing a sensational take down of the Sedgely number 8, one on one. Sam Smith produced a delicate kick over the defence and gathered it himself, continued pressure from Matthew Chowdhury, Matty Baum, Callum Naylor and Ben Nicholson saw Bolton nearing the line again. Sam Smith, Jamie Currie and Adam Hackin kept the ball moving, before utilising a dominant pack to drive the ball onward until Harvey Banks saw his opportunity and burst through for a try.
The final whistle blew soon afterwards, and the final score was 36-5.
