A tough match well won

Bolton perform well to beat Glossop 22-14
From the kick off it was clear that these two teams were well-matched, and for the first 15 minutes there was little between them. Glossop had a strong and skilled number 12, who burst through on a number of occasions, but Sam Smith’s tackles brought him down every time.
Eventually a ruck saw Tom Evans pass the ball out to David Price who passed it along to Jonny Wallis. Wallis brushed off 2 tackles, bursting through the Glossop defence from 30 metres out to score the first try for Bolton. David Price converted well and the score was 7-0 to Bolton.
Glossop fought back, and a couple of careless penalties given away by Bolton enabled them to make good ground, and then equal the score at 7-7. Glossop went on the attack again straight away, but some ferocious tackles by Joe Carter, and excellent defence by Callum Naylor and Morgan Smith kept Glossop at bay. Bolton won the ball, and Nathan Collins broke through, making a 10 yard run before off-loading to Harvey Banks who drove forward before off-loading to Matthew Chowdhury. Chowdhury set up a ruck, and Glossop then infringed, giving Bolton a penalty in front of the posts. David Price took the opportunity to quick tap, dummied and sprinted across for Bolton’s second try, leaving the score 14-7 at half time.
The second half saw the continuation of some excellent play by Bolton. Their line-outs were solid throughout the game, and Paddy Hargreaves and Zack Doogan did some excellent work disrupting Glossop’s mauls. Bolton’s defence work was notable, and Tom Heatherington put in some great tackles, whilst Ben Nicholson and Harry Dawber performed well in the scrum. Jonny Wallis and Adam Hackin at inside and outside centre proved to be too formidable a team for Glossop, and their speed and strength was intimidating.
Glossop had the ball, when Matty Baum did some excellent work, stealing the ball and passing out to Sam Humphreys he fed Nathan Collins on the burst who offoaded to Jonny Wallis. He, once again, outpaced Glossop’s defence for his second try of the game. 19-7 to Bolton.
Glossop remained strong, and came back quickly to score again, bringing the score to 19-14. However, continued infringements eventually led to a penalty for Bolton in front of the posts, and David Price kicked it well for the 3 points.
A hard won victory 22-14 to Bolton.
