Under 16's Match report v Eccles

After on / off / on decisions through the week the U16’s match at Eccles dawned wet and cold with very wet pitches – but at least the Lads were going to get a match. Games against local rivals Eccles can go either way as the two teams both rise to the occasion when they meet.

The weather conditions could have bogged the game down with constant forward play, but the teams both looked to open the game up and Bolton got the ball through the hands at every opportunity, also looking to gain the advantage by tactical plays from the breakdown.

Eccles came out winners but the game was a lot closer than the 22 – 0 score would indicate. Three out of the four tries Eccles scored came from opportunities created by Bolton mistakes close to the line rather than direct attacking plays. Bolton and Eccles pressurised each other all through the game and our Lads were unlucky not to score after the hard work put in across the whole team.

Thanks to those hardy souls who braved the weather to support the Team. It was worth it to see the improvement in their game. Also thanks to Eccles RUFC for making sure the game went ahead.

Man of the Match – ‘The Team’ – hard work across the park meant they all deserved it – plus, Will ‘Thespian’ Chambers forgot to bring the trophy back – can remember his lines but not the cup!

Tackler of the Match – Sam ‘Hit Man’ Garrett – put in the first ‘boom time’ hit of the game and set up a bone crunching encounter for all.
