U16s take heart and lots of positives from defeat -- fine margins!

Returning to the theatre of trees, Bolton play out a tough game against Tyldesley, with a great performance and a lot to work on at training after a hard 50-10 defeat.

The home team are still on the up from our last game against Tyldesley, with a mention of improvement from Tyldesley coaches and parents alike, with even a slight dip from recent form in our final game of 2013.

Bolton had a strong start, with an early try against the lads being immediately returned and the try count levelled by Adam Kazmi after brilliant work from the Bolton forwards, with Tom HIll, Jacob Walker and Matty Ashton being among them, and strong play from the backs, including Josh Holmes, Michael Latham and Chris Brownlow. Unfortunately, this was to be Bolton’s only score of the half as the already strong Tyldesley side bumped up their game and Bolton’s form of recent weeks began to wear off despite strong work from Jordan Ashton, Will McCambridge and Ryan McClusky helping to slow down the visitors. Bolton had many strong moments, with Tom Hill’s only being disallowed a try due to Bolton having too many players in the lineout.

In the second half Bolton again started strongly with yet another brilliant run from Ryan McClusky ending in his third try in two weeks, a good end to 2013. The side continued this hard work long into the second half, threatening multiple times on the Tyldesley line and keeping out the visitors for many minutes. A late injury to Chris Brownlow seemed to stutter the Bolton line towards the end of the second half, with a few tries being run in in the last 12 minutes. The team played well, but were ultimately beaten by a stronger Tyldesley side and the home lads shouldn’t be disheartened by the scoreline.

The game ended 50-10, with many options for training now in the coaches’ heads, ready to be unleashed into the New Year. The players’ player of the match went to Ryan McClusky and the parents’ player going to Chris Brownlow (2 awards in 2 weeks) with Coaches’ player going to Michael Latham. The final training session follows next weekend and then a deserved rest for the lads after a tough 2013; though they still have a final “gig” at the Astley Bridge, Asda Supermarket where they will be bag packing on December 29th.
