It was a foggy day, and the fog was bolstered by chaos as our opponents kindly declined to play on Saturday, Dave rang round Lancashire on Saturday night to arrange a match with Wilmslow, and on arrival with 40 plus boys, it was too frozen to play. Both teams trained for an hour or so, then a thaw meant game on another pitch for the boys.
From the start Wilmslow proved to be too quick and direct for bolton. Try after try was scored, and the boys stood mesmerised at the passages of play. A few isolated breaks by Myles were snuffed out by some excellent tackling, and the Wilmslow support recycled the ball to add more pressure.
Final score 12 tries to 0 over thirty minutes of play. Not ideal, but given the fact that Wilmslow were an excellent team two years ago, and they haven't deteriorated since then, it's not too surprising that a defeat was on the cards. Coaches will need to work on basic skills but most importantly developing the the skill of never giving up and trying to extract small gains in adversity. The boys need to learn that raw power and speed don't mean much against organisation and 100% commitment.
