Bolton u12's 25 v Eccles 5
A comfortable win but should have been much better
Bolton were missing a few players and the ones that did appear seemed to be missing all knowledge of how to play. Admittedly the weather intervened last week but can you really forget your position, tactics and the rules in 14 days? Apparently the answer is 'yes'. The slick handling, well executed rehearsed moves and individual excellence had somehow disintegrated into the worst performance(s) of the season.
Despite the fact that Bolton scored directly from the KO, a blistering 50 metre run from Louis Ramm, with a further try a couple of minutes later (Ramm), Bolton somehow drifted into distinctly lackluster play, allowing Eccles to get a try back after 8 mins. The next 7 minutes to half time were entirely forgettable, so much so I've forgotten them! Half time Bolton 2 -1 Eccles.
With 7 new players on, who had apparently met before, things marginally improved. Unfortunately for Eccles Louis stayed on finishing off the best (only?) passing move of the match after 17 mins. Then a stodgy passage of play, with neither side gaining the upper hand, was brought to life when Bolton put together a cracking series of mauls & rucks to drive over after 24 minutes.
Shortly after the re-start Evan Dare brilliantly fielded a high kick and drove into the heart of the Eccles defense, the ball was released to Jack Good, who made 20 meters before realising he would not quite get over, he took the tackle and the perfectly presented ball allowed Louis to flop over from inches.
Final score Ramm 5-1 Eccles
