Bolton u14's Amazons rugby team hosted the first round of the Lancashire Challenge Cup.
Their visitors were Aldwinians from Droylsden and Crewe and Nantwich u14's.
The first match was versus Aldwinians. Aldwinians are a new team and were missing a number of their experienced players. They worked hard and never gave up but the more experienced players from Bolton took control of the game. A try by Eilidh B. and two tries by Holly T. and Iona B. sealed the game for Bolton. Iona converted four of the tries. Final score 33 v 0.
Bolton's next game was against Crewe who's team was very much depleted due to half term and were only able to field five players so five Aldwinians players joined their team. Bolton won this game scoring six tries without reply. Iona scored two, with coaches and parents player of the match Phillipa I. Scoring one, and further tries from Holly T., Felicity R. and Eilidh B. Three tries were converted by Iona.
Final score 36 v 0.
The final game was between Crewe and Aldwinians, the scoreline did not reflect the hard work Aldwinians put in in defence. Ruby Y. Scored a long range try for the Manchester club. But a combined Bolton and Crewe team were just too strong. Final score 41 v 5 to Crewe.
Phillipa I. won both the parents award and coaches award after scoring her first try for the club, and her powerful runs in the game.
Betty W. received the captain's award and although she didn't get on the score sheet she created numerous tries that day.
